Research with us

CoCaLa Group Retreat

Us at our last retreat

We are always happy to hear from curious minds who enjoy academic challenges and want to engage with the kinds of questions we explore. Whether you are a prospective postdoc, PhD student, visitor, or student, you are welcome to get in touch.

Please note that we receive many inquiries and may not be able to respond to all messages immediately—this usually means we are at the blackboard or immersed in research discussions 📚. If your message is still relevant after a few weeks, do feel free to resend it 📬.

Prospective PhD students and Postdocs

Life at the Lab & University

Denmark is known for having one of the flattest work hierarchies in the world. As a PhD student or Postdoc at the University of Copenhagen, you are an academic employee with a generous salary (see salary scale here), full pension, and full vacation rights. The PhD program typically lasts 3 years (with a 3+5 option combining MSc and PhD studies), while Postdoc positions are usually 2 years.

Living in Copenhagen

Copenhagen is consistently ranked among the most livable cities globally. A publicly supported daycare and healthcare system, coupled with strong parental leave policies, makes life easy for families. The city offers a rich culture of music, theater, and associations to explore outside the lab (see here). If you are an international candidate, you may find useful information here. For more details, visit the International Staff Mobility.

How to Apply

Vacant positions are announced annually (applications due April 1 or November 15) through official department calls. If you are applying for your own funding (e.g., DDSA, DARA, or MSCA), please email the professor you are interested in.

BSc/MSc Thesis

If you are a student at the University of Copenhagen interested in writing your thesis with us, please contact the professor you are interested in directly.

Research visits and collaborations

We welcome collaborations and research visits, whether that means a joint research project, hosting PhD exchange students, organizing a workshop, or inviting us for a talk. If you are interested in a visit or have an idea that aligns with our interests, please reach out via email.
